Why Fan Edits Are the Internet’s Greatest Art Form

Ah, the wonderful world of edits - or as my roommate lovingly calls it, ‘freak land’.

Personally, I will take zero criticism for being completely emotionally fulfilled by a great IG Reel edit made by an anonymous account with 243 followers and a username like @totowolffisgod90210.

Some of these users are modern-day Austens. Edits hold power. They spark joy, hate, obsession, heartbreak. All in under 60 seconds.

What got me into Formula One? Drive to Survive? No. It was Hamilton x Hamilton edits.

Have I ever watched Hamilton? No.

Did I know who Lewis Hamilton was? Also no.

But those videos? Perfection.

If I can encourage you to do anything today, it’s this: fall down the rabbit hole. Watch the fan edits. Scroll the thirst traps. Lose yourself in a 2014 Tumblr-core love triangle montage.

Are some of them terrifying tributes to the worst characters ever written? Maybe. But that’s okay.

We’re all in freak land together.

I have pulled some of my favourite edits, categorised per niche! Check it out below:

Formula One

The Office

Star Wars

Phantom of The Opera

Adults

Colin Firth

This list is by no means exhaustive - freak land is infinite. But it’s a start. Happy spiralling.
